It has six letters and digits in three groups separated by hyphens; the order of letter and digit groups is the series (sidecode). Series 4 to 12 are covered: XX-99-XX, XX-XX-99, 99-XX-XX, 99-XXX-9, 9-XXX-99, XX-999-X, X-999-XX, XXX-99-X (cars since June 2024) and X-99-XXX (vans since 2024). Since series 4 the letters are consonants without C and Q, which look too much like a zero; Y appears only in series 4. Some letter combinations, such as SS, SD, NSB and the names of political parties, are never issued. RDW open data writes the number without hyphens. Older series 1 to 3 with vowels, mopeds, trailers and special plates follow other rules and are not covered.",
