The index is a digit for ordinary plates: series 1 ran from 2010 and series 2 started with 2-AAA-001 in December 2020. Other indexes mark vehicle categories, among them M (motorcycles), S (mopeds), P (speed pedelecs), Q (trailers), O (oldtimers), T (taxis), G (agricultural vehicles), Z (dealers), Y (test drives) and V (repair businesses). The Vehicle Registration Service (DIV) issues the plates, and a plate normally stays with its owner rather than with the car. Plates of the formats used before 2010 (ABC-123 until 2008, 123-ABC from 2008), personalised, diplomatic, temporary and export plates follow other rules and are not covered.",
