# German passport number (`de_passport`)

Serial number of a German passport (Reisepass): nine characters, a four-character code of the issuing authority and a five-character random number. Since November 2007 it is alphanumeric and avoids vowels and the letters B, D, Q and S; since November 2021 the digit 0 is no longer used. Microsoft Purview expects the first character of a passport number to be C, F, G, H, J or K, and also accepts the check digit and the D (Germany) that follow the number in the machine-readable zone. Temporary passports use a letter and seven digits instead.
