Documento Nacional de Identidad, the identity number of Spanish citizens: eight digits and a check letter, which is the number modulo 23 looked up in TRWAGMYFPDXBNJZSQVHLCKE. The same value is the person's tax number (NIF). Foreigners receive an NIE instead.
