# GBIF taxon key (`gbif_taxon_id`)

Numeric key of a taxon in the GBIF Backbone Taxonomy of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility, used in occurrence data downloads. Wikidata keeps the taxon identifiers of the taxonomy that GBIF introduced in 2026, which are short alphanumeric codes, in a separate property (P14607).
