# GND ID (Integrated Authority File of the German National Library) (`gnd_id`)

Identifier of a record in the Gemeinsame Normdatei (GND), the authority file for persons, corporate bodies, places, subjects and works kept by the German National Library and library networks in German-speaking countries. In 2012 it replaced the separate name (PND), corporate body (GKD) and subject heading (SWD) authority files. GND IDs come in several formats; the last character is a check character, a digit or X, and in some formats a hyphen precedes it.
