# HGNC gene ID (`hgncid`)

Stable numeric identifier that the HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee (HGNC) assigns to each human gene with an approved symbol. The ID stays the same when the gene symbol or name changes. Wikidata stores the number; HGNC and PubChem write it with the prefix "HGNC:".
