# International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) (`imei`)

Number that identifies a mobile device of 3GPP networks (GSM, UMTS, LTE, 5G) and of some satellite networks. It has 15 digits; the 8-digit Type Allocation Code (TAC) identifies the device model, the next 6 digits are the serial number given by the manufacturer, and the last digit is a Luhn check digit. It is often written as AA-BBBBBB-CCCCCC-D. The related IMEISV (imeisv) replaces the check digit with a two-digit software version number.
