# MusicBrainz Identifier (MBID) (`musicbrainz_id`)

Permanent identifier of an entity in MusicBrainz, the open music encyclopedia: an artist, release group, release, recording, work, label, area, place, URL or track. It is a UUID in lower case with hyphens. The value does not tell the kind of entity, so the field name matters; the records musicbrainz_artist_id, musicbrainz_release_group_id and others name one kind.
