# Organizationally Unique Identifier (OUI) (`oui`)

> **Draft.** Draft records have not been reviewed yet and may be incomplete or wrong; do not treat them as authoritative for legal or compliance decisions.

24-bit number that the IEEE Registration Authority assigns to a vendor or other organization (MA-L assignment). It forms the first three octets of MAC addresses and other EUI-48 and EUI-64 identifiers made by that organization, and is also used in World Wide Names and SNAP protocol identifiers. It is written as three hexadecimal octets, separated by hyphens or colons or not at all.

- Personal data (PII): no
- Categories: Internet (internet)
- Countries: global
- Languages: Common to most languages (common)
- Classification: identifier

## Detection

Regular expression (Python `re`):

```
^(?:[0-9A-Fa-f]{2}-[0-9A-Fa-f]{2}-[0-9A-Fa-f]{2}|[0-9A-Fa-f]{2}:[0-9A-Fa-f]{2}:[0-9A-Fa-f]{2}|[0-9A-Fa-f]{6})$
```

## Examples

- `AC-DE-48` — IEEE example OUI
- `ACDE48` — The same OUI without separators
- `AC-DE-48-23-45-67` (invalid example) — A full MAC address, not only the OUI

## Translations

- ru: Уникальный идентификатор организации (OUI): 24-битный номер, который IEEE выдаёт производителю; он образует первые три октета MAC-адресов.
