# UniProtKB accession number (`uniprot_id`)

> **Draft.** Draft records have not been reviewed yet and may be incomplete or wrong; do not treat them as authoritative for legal or compliance decisions.

Stable identifier of a protein entry in the UniProt Knowledgebase (UniProtKB), the protein sequence and function database of the UniProt consortium. An accession has 6 or 10 uppercase letters and digits in a fixed layout, which UniProt publishes as a regular expression. An entry keeps its primary accession across releases, and the accessions of entries merged into it remain as secondary accessions. It is not the mnemonic entry name, which has the form NAME_SPECIES.
