# Microsoft Power BI (`powerbi`)

Microsoft Power BI is a business intelligence service with a desktop report editor. In Power BI Desktop the author sets a data category on a column, such as City, Postal code, Latitude, Web URL or Barcode, to tell Power BI how to use its values: geographic categories are sent to Bing Maps for geocoding, Web URL and Image URL turn values into links or pictures, and Barcode lets the mobile app filter a report by a scanned code. The category is set by hand and is not inferred from the values. The categories are described in the Power BI documentation on data categorization, map tips, hyperlinks, images and barcodes.
