# eBird taxon code (`ebird_taxon_code`)

Code of a taxon in the eBird/Clements taxonomy of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, used in eBird data, species page URLs and the eBird API. Most codes are lower-case letters, sometimes with one or two trailing digits (osprey, ftspet, ostric2); most hybrids have x and most slash taxa y followed by five digits (x00669). The taxonomy is updated every year, so record its version with the code.
