Code of a river, lake, transitional or coastal water body that a Member State reports to the European Environment Agency (WISE) under the Water Framework Directive. It is the two-letter country code (EL for Greece, UK for the former UK reports) followed by the national water body code, 3 to 42 upper-case letters, digits, hyphens and underscores in all, starting and ending with a letter or digit. Codes change between river basin management cycles (Sweden moved to UUID-based codes in 2022), and groundwater body codes have the same form, so check the reporting cycle and column context.
