# Global Volcanism Program volcano number (VNum) (`gvp_volcano_number`)

Six-digit number of a volcano in the Volcanoes of the World database of the Smithsonian Institution Global Volcanism Program. The numbering comes from the Catalogue of Active Volcanoes of the World and follows a geographic order, but the leading digits do not reliably give the region of the current database. Since September 2013 the numbers have only digits and none starts with 0 or 1; numbers such as 1202-16- belong to the former scheme. A bare six-digit number, recognize it with column context.
