Serial identifier of a tropical cyclone in the International Best Track Archive for Climate Stewardship (IBTrACS) of NOAA NCEI, 13 characters long. It is built from the storm's genesis, the year (4 digits), day of the year (3), hemisphere (N or S), latitude (2 digits) and longitude in degrees east (3 digits), for example 2005236N23285 for Hurricane Katrina. Some storms before 1970 have longitude digits above 359, and the identifier is not updated when the track is revised.
