Leading digits of a payment card number that identify the institution that issued the card, under ISO/IEC 7812-1. It is also called the bank identification number (BIN). The IIN had six digits; the 2017 revision of the standard extended it to eight. It has no check digit of its own - the Luhn check digit belongs to the whole card number.
