Virtual ID, a temporary and revocable 16-digit number that UIDAI maps to an Aadhaar number. A resident can use it instead of the Aadhaar number for authentication and e-KYC. VIDs are random, never start with 0 or 1, and end with a Verhoeff check digit. They are often written in four groups of four digits; the regexp describes the compact form.
