# IPCC emission and removal category code (`ipcc_emission_category`)

Code of a source or sink category of greenhouse gas emissions and removals in the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories (Volume 1, Table 8.2). The levels are separated by dots: the sector (1 energy, 2 industrial processes and product use, 3 agriculture, forestry and other land use, 4 waste, 5 other), a capital letter, a number, a lowercase letter, a lowercase Roman numeral and a digit, as in 1.A.1.a.i or 3.B.1.a. UNFCCC reporting tables (CRF, CRT) use the same notation but number agriculture, land use and waste differently, so a matching code can mean another category there. The 1996 Guidelines wrote codes without dots (1A1a); that form is not matched.
