# IPTC Media Topic code (`iptc_media_topic`)

Code of a subject in IPTC Media Topics, the taxonomy of about 1400 news subjects that the International Press Telecommunications Council maintains and that news agencies use to tag articles, photos and video. Each code has eight digits. It is written as a QCode with the scheme alias medtop (medtop:15000000 is sport) or as a URI under http://cv.iptc.org/newscodes/mediatopic/. Top-level codes coincide with the older IPTC Subject Codes (alias subj). A bare eight-digit code is not accepted by the regexp, because it looks like a date or a Subject Code. Wikidata property P5429 holds all NewsCodes in the form mediatopic/15000000.
