# ISO 3166-2 subdivision code with a dot separator (`iso3166code_dotted`)

> **Draft.** Draft records have not been reviewed yet and may be incomplete or wrong; do not treat them as authoritative for legal or compliance decisions.

Code of a country subdivision from ISO 3166-2 written with a dot instead of the hyphen between the two-letter country code and the subdivision part, as in AU.VIC for Victoria. Schema v1 of the ROR data dump stores the region of an organization in this form (geonames_admin1.code). The same shape is used for GeoNames first-level administrative codes, whose subdivision part is not always the ISO one.

- Pattern of: `iso3166code`
- Personal data (PII): no
- Categories: Geographic identifiers (geo)
- Countries: global
- Languages: Common to most languages (common)
- Classification: categorical

## Detection

Regular expression (Python `re`):

```
^[A-Z]{2}\.[A-Z0-9]{1,3}$
```

## Examples

- `AU.VIC` — Victoria, Australia (ISO 3166-2 AU-VIC)
- `RU.MOW` — Moscow, Russia (ISO 3166-2 RU-MOW)
- `FR.IDF` — Île-de-France, France (ISO 3166-2 FR-IDF)
- `AL.11` — Tirana County, Albania (ISO 3166-2 AL-11)
- `AU-VIC` (invalid example) — The hyphenated form, covered by iso3166code
- `VIC` (invalid example) — The subdivision part alone, without the country code
