Code of a climate type in the Köppen-Geiger classification. The first letter is the main group (A tropical, B arid, C temperate, D cold, E polar), the second the precipitation pattern (f, m, s, w; W desert and S steppe for B; T tundra and F frost for E) and the third the temperature (h, k for B; a, b, c, d for C and D), for example Cfb or BWh. The map of Beck et al. (2018), after Peel et al. (2007), has 30 classes and merges As into Aw, while the map of Kottek et al. (2006) keeps As. The codes are case-sensitive.
