# National Bibliography Number URN (URN:NBN) (`urn_nbn`)

Uniform Resource Name in the NBN namespace (RFC 8458): a persistent identifier that national libraries and their partners assign to digital publications, theses, conference proceedings and other documents. It starts with urn:nbn:, a two-letter ISO 3166 country code and a colon or hyphen; the rest follows the rules of the national library, often a sub-namespace and a serial number with a check digit. Resolvers such as nbn-resolving.org (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) and urn.fi (Finland) turn it into a URL. The urn:nbn: part is case-insensitive.
