# USGS earthquake event ID (ComCat) (`usgs_earthquake_id`)

Identifier of an earthquake or other seismic event in the ANSS Comprehensive Earthquake Catalog (ComCat) of the US Geological Survey. It is the lower-case code of the contributing network or catalog (us, ci, nc, ak, iscgem, official and others) followed by the code that the network assigned, for example us10006g7d or ci38457511. One event collects the IDs of all its contributors, any of them resolves to the event, and the preferred ID can change over time.
