# World Glacier Inventory (WGI) glacier ID (`wgi_glacier_id`)

Twelve-character id of a glacier in the World Glacier Inventory, compiled by the World Glacier Monitoring Service and NSIDC: a 2-letter political unit code (country codes of the time, including SU and ZR), a continent digit from 1 to 7, a 4-character drainage basin code, a 2-character free position code and a 3-character local glacier code. The user guide calls the last two parts digits, but the data also have letters there (FR4N01083B15).
