First three characters of a Canadian postal code (ca_postcode): letter, digit, letter, for example K1A. A forward sortation area is the area covered by all postal codes that start with these characters. The letter is a postal district within one province or territory, and a 0 as the digit marks a rural area. Statistics Canada and other publishers release data and boundary files by FSA when full postal codes would be too detailed.
