Identifier of a reference SNP record (RefSNP) in dbSNP, the database of short genetic variations kept by the US National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). It is the letters rs followed by a number. A RefSNP groups the submitted reports of a variant at the same location of the reference genome, so genome-wide association studies, genotyping files and variant annotations use the rsID to name a variant.
