Lebenslange Arztnummer (LANR), the nine-digit number that the Associations of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (Kassenärztliche Vereinigungen) give to each doctor and psychotherapist who bills the statutory health insurance, valid since 1 July 2008. Six digits identify the person for life, the seventh is a check digit (the six digits weighted 4 and 9 alternately, 10 minus the sum modulo 10) and the last two are the specialty group. A doctor in several specialties has several LANRs that share the first seven digits.
