Mnemonic of a DNS resource record type, such as A (IPv4 address), AAAA (IPv6 address), CNAME (alias), MX (mail server), NS (name server), TXT (text) or SOA (start of authority). DNS zone files, resolver and passive DNS logs and DNS APIs store it. IANA assigns the 16-bit type values and their mnemonics in the DNS Parameters registry. The regexp lists the mnemonics registered in November 2026, the query types AXFR, IXFR and ANY, and the generic form TYPE<number> of RFC 3597 for types without a mnemonic. It accepts only uppercase, the usual form.
