GS1 identification key for a type of document, such as a certificate, an invoice form or a permit. Thirteen digits (a GS1 Company Prefix, a document type and a GS1 check digit) may be followed by a serial component of up to 17 characters of GS1 character set 82 that identifies one document of that type. In barcodes it is carried by Application Identifier (253); the element string is the pattern gs1_ai_253.
