Code of the Ninth Revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-9) of the World Health Organization, which ICD-10 later replaced. A code is three digits for a category of diseases, with up to two decimal digits for a subcategory. Supplementary codes start with V (factors that influence health status and contact with health services) or E (external causes of injury and poisoning). ICD-9-CM, the clinical modification used in the United States until October 2015, adds a volume of procedure codes, which the regexp does not cover.
