The first eight digits of an IMEI or IMEISV, which identify the make and model of a mobile device. Reporting bodies approved by the GSMA allocate TACs to manufacturers; the first two digits are the Reporting Body Identifier. Before 2003 this part of the IMEI was a six-digit type approval code followed by a two-digit final assembly code. Device databases keyed by TAC are used to resolve the model of an IMEI.
