64-bit Extended Unique Identifier of the IEEE: an OUI or a longer company identifier followed by an extension that the organization assigns. IEEE 802.15.4 networks such as Zigbee and Thread, FireWire and InfiniBand use it as a hardware address, and IPv6 can derive interface identifiers from it. It is written as eight pairs of hexadecimal digits separated by hyphens or colons; a MAC address (EUI-48) has six pairs and is described by mac_address. RFC 9542 reserves 00-00-5E-EF-10-00-00-00 to 00-00-5E-EF-10-00-00-FF for documentation.
