Ten-digit identifier of a drug package listed with the US Food and Drug Administration. It has three segments: the labeler code assigned by the FDA, the product code and the package code, both assigned by the labeler. The official form separates the segments with hyphens in one of the configurations 4-4-2, 5-3-2, 5-4-1, 6-3-2 or 6-4-1. Claims data under HIPAA use an 11-digit form without hyphens that pads the segments with zeros to 5-4-2.
